Sheriff Kurt J. Schneider would like to remind Ashland County, OH residents and visitors to be prepared for the upcoming winter storm. This winter storm is likely to produce snow levels in excess of 10-12 inches of snow. This will make roadways hazardous for travel. Please make sure you and your families have essential supplies prior to the arrival of the storm. Sheriff Schneider will monitor weather and road conditions throughout the night and encourages everyone to avoid unnecessary travel. Snow Emergencies will be posted on the Sheriff’s App, the Ashland County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, website, and the Ashland County Emergency Management Agency pages.
If a level 2 snow emergency is declared, Sheriff Schneider recommends that people stay home and refrain from driving unless absolutely necessary. Snow removal crews will be working throughout the next couple of days and will need assistance from motorists by staying off the roadways. Contact your employer to see if it is necessary for you to report to work. Should local municipal parking bans be implemented, please do not park alongside the roadways. Local parking bans could result in your vehicle being cited and/or towed.
If the Sheriff declares a Level 3 Snow Emergency, all roadways in Ashland County (including all Municipalities and Villages) will be closed to non-emergency traffic. Only first responders and essential personnel will be allowed to traverse roadways at their own risk. Essential personnel include medical professionals, tow truck operators, and personnel affiliated with the following critical business and government entities; hospitals, urgent care facilities, gas stations, HVAC businesses, maintenance and service personnel for business / government, tree services, drug stores, and grocery stores. A Level 3 Snow Emergency will also affect mail and delivery services.
The Sheriff would like to remind motorists who are non-essential personnel that traverse the roadways during a Level 3 Snow Emergency are subject to citation or arrest.
The Sheriff asks all residents to use extra caution and good judgement during this potentially dangerous storm. Emergency Services will be working around the clock and ready to assist you in your emergency situations. Please stay safe! Please Buckle Up!
